Japanese and Dutch artists Participate Working Opera Dance Gandari
Departing from one of the characters of the Mahabharata, Gunawan Mohammad makes a poem titled "Gandhari". The poem was able to inspire other artists, namely Tony Prabowo, a contemporary musician who wants to develop a "Gandhari" into an opera performance.
Tit for tat, Tony had the support of Yudi Ahmad Tajudin, theater director from Yogyakarta, and Akiko Kitamura, a Japanese choreographer and a number of other institutions such as the Foundation for Art Links, Djarum Foundation, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Indonesia and Japan Foundation Asia Center. In fact, expanding cooperation with the involvement of a number of Dutch musicians to work on music in this opera.
"The idea of making this dance opera since 2011 end. I'm from the beginning was enamored with Akiko and Yudi. Then in 2012, met with the Foundation for Art and chat Links to realize this plan," Tony said in a press conference in Kuningan, Jakarta, on Thursday (04.12.2014).
While Tony plays an important role in music composition obtained when live poetry "Gandhari", Yudi which serves as a director in this opera should prepare a concept of collaboration. Because, Yudi should be able to bridge the artists from Japan and the Netherlands.
Finally, three dancers from Solo chosen to play this opera, they are Danang Pamungkas, Rianto, and Kana Ote. The three then flew to Japan to receive training from Akiko while refining dance movement with three other dancers from Japan.
On the other continents, about 30 orchestra continued to practice composition Tony creation. This show has been prepared since the middle of this year indeed.
Regarding the figure of Gandhari, Yudi trying to interpret broadly to more liquid to be absorbed from the various forms of art in this opera.
"What I like, Mas Gun (Gunawan) put Gandari not as a moral prototype, but rather the subjects who had thoughts and feelings. Gandari seen as a woman, a mother who can take a stand against his own way," said Yudi.
Although this project involves artists who are culturally quite far from the culture Mahabharata, Yudi reported no significant problems. Gandhari translated in this time to show the relevance of women as mothers are universal.
